The municipalities reshaped the local political map. The left guarded Paris, Marseille and Lyon but failed in its alliances with LFI, while the right progressed and the RN rooted in medium-sized cities.

The far-right RN missed out on mayoral posts in Marseille and Toulon, but did win in numerous other cities. Now that the municipal elections are over, the campaign for the 2027 presidential elections is kicking off.

While the left managed to hold onto Paris, Lyon and Marseille, alliances forged with radical left La France Insoumise often failed against the right. The far-right Rassemblement National, meanwhile, confirmed its momentum in mid-sized cities.
