Parents arrested after 3rd grader accidentally fired gun in Va. classroom, deputies say
- A gun discharged in a third-grader's backpack at Lee Hill Elementary School on Monday around 10:50 a.m.
- The child found the unsecured handgun at home and placed it in the backpack, according to investigators.
- The teacher evacuated 26 students after the gun went off as the child reached into the backpack in class.
- Spotsylvania sheriff's Maj. Elizabeth Scott said, "At some point while in the classroom, the child reached into his backpack...and inadvertently pulled the trigger on the gun."
- The parents, Ciara Armstead, 36, and Terrence Carroll Jr., 34, face felony child endangerment and misdemeanor firearms charges, with court set for April 11.
