Palestinian health ministry says baby killed and parents wounded by Israeli gunfire in West Bank
The military said it is reviewing the shooting as Palestinian officials reported three family members were hit by gunfire in the car.
- On Jun 5, Israeli gunfire killed a Palestinian infant, Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron, while his parents were wounded in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
- After soldiers perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them, the Israeli military claimed they opened fire in Hebron, though an initial inquiry found those injured were "uninvolved civilians."
- Recounting the incident, the grandmother of Sam Fahd Abu Haikal said the family stopped their car upon seeing military vehicles, then heard shots. "One bullet struck my grandson, traversed his face and crossed his head, striking his mother's cheek where it lodged," she said.
- Separately, Israeli forces killed an 18-year-old Palestinian, Haitham Ezzedine Omar Hmeida, in the village of Beitin, while the military said the Hebron incident remains under review.
- Since the war in Gaza began, at least 1,080 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli soldiers or settlers, according to an AFP tally based on Palestinian health ministry data.
