Pacers' Obi Toppin to have surgery on right foot
Obi Toppin will miss at least three months following surgery for a stress fracture, adding to the Pacers’ injury challenges with multiple starters sidelined, coach Rick Carlisle said.
- Coach Rick Carlisle announced in Indianapolis that Indiana Pacers forward Obi Toppin will have surgery Monday to place a screw in the fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot.
- Toppin was removed from Sunday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves after exiting with the injury, initially thought to be a hamstring issue, and was later listed out for Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks with a stress reaction in right foot.
- He was limited to 17 minutes during the Minnesota game and then sat out a 107-105 loss to Dallas; as an overall pick in the 2020 draft, Obi Toppin has played at least 62 games each season.
- Toppin is one of seven Pacers players out for Friday, and his absence is second only to Two-time All-Star Tyrese Haliburton's season-ending Achilles tear.
- Carlisle said the surgery will take place in New York, marking another setback for an injury-plagued Indiana Pacers roster that includes Bennedict Mathurin week-to-week, Andrew Nembhard's shoulder strain, and T.J. McConnell yet to play.
