Özgür Özel, Turkey’s main opposition leader, on Monday criticized the government of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over what he described as continuing failures in earthquake recovery efforts, saying hundreds of thousands of survivors remain in temporary housing three years after deadly earthquakes struck on February 6, 2023.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel began his visits in Osmaniye on the third anniversary of the February 6th earthquakes. Speaking at the provincial headquarters, Özel emphasized that Osmaniye holds a special place for him, commemorated those who lost their lives in the earthquake, and delivered a message of solidarity.
Demirci, who lost his wife and two children in the February 6 earthquake, said: "I still haven't been able to shed those tears; there were lives that needed to be saved at that moment."
AK Party Spokesperson Çelik said, "We pray to God for mercy for our martyrs who lost their lives in the disaster of the century. The wounds have been healed and continue to be healed. Our organizations will be in the earthquake zones. We will visit the martyrs' cemeteries. We will visit the families who have lost loved ones and those who are injured."
AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik, who attended an organizational meeting in Osmaniye, made critical statements regarding the reconstruction and rehabilitation process following the earthquake. Stating that the efforts to erase the traces of the disaster, carried out hand in hand by the state and the people, will continue uninterrupted, Çelik emphasized that AK Party cadres will be fully deployed and on alert in the earthquake zone.
