Three people have died and more than a dozen others have been injured and hospitalized after a sudden stampede at a popular Hindu festival in Puri in eastern India, a senior Indian government official said today.
The injured were immediately admitted to the Puri District Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. This incident happened near Shardhabali, in front of Sri Gundicha Temple, when a huge crowd had gathered to see Lord Jagannath seated on the chariot.
