INDIA, JUL 30 – The Indian government blocked over 1,400 URLs spreading harmful misinformation mainly from foreign sources to protect national security and public order, officials said.
- On Wednesday, 30 July 2025, the Government of India blocked over 1,400 URLs during Operation Sindoor under Section 69A of the IT Act.
- In response to false narratives from abroad, Vaishnaw said social media accounts from outside India spread misleading content during Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack.
- During Operation Sindoor, the Fact Check Unit under the Press Information Bureau monitored platforms in real time to detect manipulated content and shared links with intermediaries for action.
- After consultations with relevant Ministries, 43 OTT platforms have been blocked for spreading false and misleading information, aligning with Indian laws and ethical guidelines.
