It contains carbon dioxide, but also aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals from the burning of pines. The particles are up to a thousand times thinner than a hair. They are irritating to the lungs and can cause sore throat, otitis and skin irritation. The smoke travels tens of kilometres. (Health and well-being).
