USPS Launches ‘Operation Santa’
Operation Santa enables individuals and groups to anonymously adopt letters and send gifts to children nationwide, addressing a gap where more letters are received than adopted, USPS says.
- Starting on Monday, Nov. 17, the United States Postal Service launched the 2025 Operation Santa program, marking its 113th year and opening letter adoption online at USPSOperationSanta.com.
- Designed to promote community giving, the Operation Santa program supports children and families who write letters, as USPS receives far more letters than adopters this year.
- Letters are published online with identifying details removed so adopters can browse, create accounts and verify identity on USPSOperationSanta.com, then select single or family letters and ship gifts directly.
- Officials urge workplaces and community groups to adopt letters together, as the team adoption feature lets offices, coworkers, and groups claim full family letter sets, though USPS warns no letter is guaranteed adoption.
- With the season open, adopters are urged to adopt early as letters must be postmarked by Dec. 6 and gifts shipped by Dec. 13 for delivery by Dec. 25, while Santa's Gift Shoppe offers free shipping on orders over $49.
