One black box recovered from Air India plane crash site, police sources say

On Thursday afternoon, a 12-year-old Air India Boeing 787 crashed minutes after takeoff in Ahmedabad, hitting a medical college hostel and killing 241 on board plus several on the ground.
The crash followed the aircraft seeming stuck immediately after takeoff and failing to gain height before it slammed into the building and burst into flames, according to survivor Viswashkumar Ramesh.
Investigators recovered the plane's black box on Friday and continued searching the crash site of one of India's worst aviation disasters with support from U.S. and international experts.
At least 30 injured students remained hospitalized with four in critical condition, DNA tests were underway to identify victims, and Prime Minister Modi met the lone survivor during hospital visits.
The investigation aims to find ways to prevent future accidents while India’s civil aviation regulator ordered Air India to enhance maintenance and safety checks on its Boeing 787 fleet.
