Edmond Man Drowns at Keystone Lake Friday
- On May 30, 2025, Richard Eason, aged 74 from Ocala, Florida, died in Damariscotta Lake while swimming after his drifting boat near the Vannah Road launch.
- Eason’s boat drifted into the lake due to wind while he was parking, leading him to swim about 75 yards without a lifejacket in an attempt to retrieve it, witnesses reported.
- Local fire departments and ambulance services responded promptly, closing Vannah Road and conducting an initial search that proved unsuccessful until Maine Warden Service located Eason about 15 feet underwater around 7 p.m.
- A friend remarked that Eason was in the lake dear to him, pursuing the boat he cherished, highlighting his tradition of spending every summer at Damariscotta Lake for five decades and his deep bond with the area.
- Authorities took Eason’s body to Hall Funeral Home in Waldoboro, and the incident underscores the risks of swimming after drifting boats without lifejackets in large lakes.
