Ogier Wins Acropolis Rally to Close in on Evans
On Sunday, Sebastien Ogier won the Acropolis Rally Greece, securing his 69th World Rally Championship victory by 58.3 seconds after rival Thierry Neuville suffered a double puncture on the penultimate stage.
The two rivals battled head-to-head since Friday's opening stages, separated by just 1.3 seconds heading into stage 16 when Neuville punctured with 10km remaining.
Ogier complained all weekend about tyres that were "unsuited to the conditions" of rocky roads; driving with extreme caution, he managed to avoid punctures that plagued Frenchman Adrien Fourmaux.
Championship leader Elfyn Evans finished seventh, narrowing his lead over Takamoto Katsuta to seven points, while Ogier climbed to third in the overall standings, 33 points behind Evans.
The World Rally Championship season continues with the next round scheduled for July 17 to 19 in Estonia, offering teams an opportunity to recalibrate before the mid-season point.
