New York Rangers Claim Tye Kartye Off Waivers From Seattle Kraken
Tye Kartye, 24, brings physical play and secondary penalty kill skills to the Rangers with 98 hits this season and one year left on a $1.25 million contract.
- On Thursday, the Rangers claimed Tye Kartye off waivers from the Seattle Kraken, adding a physical bottom-six forward, according to team transaction reports.
- Seattle slid Kartye down the depth chart and designated him a nonroster player to clear roster space after activating Berkly Catton and Ben Meyers before Wednesday's 4-1 loss, then waived Kartye shortly after.
- Kartye has appeared in 40 of 58 Kraken games this season with three goals and five assists, ranking third on the team with 98 hits and averaging 13.73 hits per 60 minutes in 10:42 ice time.
- As the Rangers retool, Kartye can serve as a depth option if they sell veterans by the March 6 NHL trade deadline, and he has one year left on his contract with a $1.25 million AAV.
- Under worst-to-first waiver priority, the Rangers, who own the league's second-worst record, claimed forward Tye Kartye, who has 20 goals and 21 assists in 180 games, to reunite with defenseman Will Borgen.
