Number of children abducted in Nigerian school attack raised to more than 300

  • After a similar abduction four days earlier, the Niger state seizure followed 25 schoolchildren taken in Kebbi state's Maga town, as armed gangs often target schools.
  • A verification census and on-site visit found 88 students were also captured while fleeing during the attack, with victims aged 10 to 18, as Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, chairman of the Niger state chapter of CAN, visited Friday.
  • Security forces have deployed tactical squads and local hunters to rescue abductees, no group claims responsibility, and Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna disputed the state government’s reopening claim.
  • UNICEF reported last year that only 37% of schools in 10 conflict-hit states have early warning systems, and the kidnappings drew international attention amid U.S. President Donald Trump's claims of targeted killings.
