Nuclear waste repository at Salzgitter: licensing problems and delays

The first nuclear waste repository in Germany will be completed in a few years' time. However, new groundwater requirements are currently making it impossible to use it. The consequences could be serious.

The cabinet is looking at the salt domes in the north as a possible storage location for nuclear waste. Only provinces, municipalities and citizens had to figure this out for themselves. They are angry and are now taking action: "People are thinking: Groningen? Yes, it is possible there."
