No. 10 Utah Erases First-Half Lull in Comeback Win over No. 14 Houston
Devon Dampier ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns as Utah used a late defensive turnover to stay unbeaten and strengthen its Big 12 title case.
On Saturday, No. 10 Utah rallied from a 10-0 halftime deficit to defeat No. 14 Houston 21-13 at Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, with quarterback Devon Dampier rushing for 150 yards and two touchdowns.
Houston's defense, led by coordinator Austin Armstrong, stifled Utah through the first half, holding the Utes scoreless for the first time in 25 games. Makhi Hughes scored on a 2-yard run to build a 10-0 lead.
Dampier ignited Utah's second-half offense with season-high 150 rushing yards and connected with tailback Wayshawn Parker for back-to-back 13-yard receptions. Parker's 5-yard touchdown run gave the Utes a 14-13 lead with 11:57 remaining.
Jackson Bennee forced a fumble on a strip sack of Houston quarterback Conner Weigman with 2:15 remaining, and Jireh Moe recovered at the Houston 9-yard line. Dampier scored his second touchdown to seal the 21-13 victory.
With the win, Utah remains one of three undefeated FBS teams and holds sole possession of first place in the Big 12 Conference. The Utes will travel to Cincinnati to face the Bearcats next Saturday.
