BIHAR, JUL 26 – Nitish Kumar increased monthly pensions for retired journalists from Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000 and family pensions from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000 under a state scheme.
- On Saturday, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced a pension increase, raising the monthly pension for retired journalists under the Bihar Patrakar Samman Pension Yojana from Rs 6,000 to Rs 15,000 in Bihar.
- With elections expected this year, the Bihar government announced a pension scheme hike for journalists, just months ahead of the October or November elections.
- Dependent spouses will receive Rs 10,000 monthly, Chief Minister Kumar posted, terming the press the `fourth pillar of democracy`.
- The move will benefit 1.67 crore families in Bihar, and Chief Minister Kumar said on X that the department has been instructed to implement it.
- Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Bihar has yet to announce election dates amid an ongoing political battle between the NDA and Mahagathbandhan.
