Filming has started in New Zealand for the live-action Legend of Zelda movie, set for May 7, 2027, produced by Nintendo and Sony to capitalize on the franchise's popularity.
- On Nov. 17, Nintendo and Sony released three first-look images on the Nintendo Today app showing Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, and Nintendo said filming has begun with the film due May 7, 2027.
- Following weekend leaks, Shigeru Miyamoto, producer and Nintendo legend, disclosed casting over summer, and Wes Ball, director, leads the film from a script by Derek Connolly and T. S. Nowlin.
- The images show Link and Princess Zelda in a lush green field wearing costumes with Hylian ears, featuring Link in his signature green tunic and Zelda armed with a bow, with New Zealand as the backdrop.
- Casting details show both leads are relative unknowns despite credits, with Benjamin Evan Ainsworth voicing Pinocchio and Bo Bragason starring in Renegade Nell; it's unclear if the film adapts one Zelda game, though the look recalls Breath of the Wild.
