President Nicușor Dan referred to the CCR in the case of the amendment which would allow municipalities and county councils to allocate nearly EUR 1 million annually to private sports associations. The Head of State invokes the violation of the rules on public money, competition and the principle of bicameralism.
President Nicușor Dan has blocked, at least for the moment, the law that would have allowed the mayors and county councils to allocate annually up to 5 million lei, i.e. approximately one million euros, to private sports associations in which local authorities are associated. President Nicușor Dan referred to the CCR for the law allowing mayors to offer 1 million euros a year to private clubs. Dan believes that there is no justification for this law.
The law that gives local authorities the possibility to direct up to a million euros annually to private sports entities was attacked at the Constitutional Court by the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan. The contested measure allows the allocation of amounts in the form of ‘contribution', thus avoiding the organisation of transparent project competitions imposed by Law No 350/2005. ...
President Nicușor Dan challenged an amendment to the Constitutional Court introduced by the Chamber of Deputies whereby city halls and county councils can allocate up to 5,000,000 lei annually (approximately 1 million euros) to private sports associations in which they are partners.
