She was becoming increasingly gloomy about what was happening in the world, especially since a small majority of American voters had allowed the autocrat Trump to become president. She was increasingly inclined to stop watching the eight o’clock news and to withdraw into her own world, with her family and her hobbies. She was starting to drop out.
