Controlled Pile Burning to Occur on Anchorage Hillside

(Anchorage, AK) – Controlled pile burning is scheduled to take place next week (as early as Monday) in the Municipality of Anchorage between Hilltop Ski Area and the Prospect Heights Trailhead. Prescribed burns are used to reduce bushfire risk. A new study suggests it has the opposite effect. Areas that had multiple fires prior to 2019–2020 had greater biodiversity losses when Black Summer fires hit compared to areas that had burnt once or not at all beforehand. (Australia)
