Additional charge added for N.S. teen accused of planning attack on rural school
Police say handwritten plans and imitation weapons were found in a Bridgewater home as the teen faces counselling and murder-conspiracy charges.
On Thursday, a 15-year-old accused of plotting simultaneous school attacks in Nova Scotia and Manitoba faced a new charge in Bridgewater Youth Court; the Crown replaced the original two-count information with one including counselling someone to commit an indictable offence.
Police arrested the teen in March after Interpol and the FBI alerted authorities to a "concerning online conversation" between the youth and a 14-year-old in Manitoba discussing plans to "mount a violent attack" on their respective schools.
During a home search in March, Bridgewater Police Services discovered handwritten plans, imitation weapons including an imitation pipe bomb and assault rifle, and clothing with hate symbols; investigators noted the pair had committed significant "thought and planning."
RCMP in Manitoba added conspiracy to commit murder charges against the 14-year-old last month, while the Bridgewater teen remains at Waterville Youth Detention Centre with his bail hearing adjourned until July 14.
The alleged plot targeted Park View Education Centre in Bridgewater, serving about 880 students in Grades 10 to 12, and Rivers Collegiate in Manitoba, which has about 140 students in Grades 7 to 12.
A young person on the south coast of Nova Scotia, accused of plotting online with a young person from Manitoba to commit simultaneous attacks in their respective rural schools, is now being recharged.
