Nestle widens infant formula recall after EU requests new toxin analysis

Cereulide toxin found in ARA oil ingredient caused recall of over 60 batches of SMA formula in Northern Ireland, with no confirmed illness reported, Food Standards Agency said.

  • Nestle updated its product recall to include one more batch after the Food Standards Agency confirmed cereulide toxin in some SMA infant and follow-on formula.
  • The Food Standards Agency said on Friday that the contamination originated from arachidonic acid oil supplied by a shared, third-party ingredient supplier.
  • The recalled pack is an 800g SMA Advanced First Infant Milk marked 53390346AB with best-before December 2027, and the full recall covers several SMA products with many batch codes.
  • The Food Standards Agency urged people to stop using affected products, switch to alternatives and contact their GP or NHS 111 if a baby consumed the formula.
