Drug Trafficking: NDLEA Warns Nigerians Against Accepting Consignments From Abroad
- On Sunday, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency warned Nigerians against accepting packages from abroad without verifying contents, citing an emerging trend of illicit drugs like 'Colorado' and 'Loud' concealed in consolidated cargoes.
- NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi explained that traffickers exploit unsuspecting family members as consignees, exposing them to arrest; many Nigerians are already imprisoned for inadvertently receiving these shipments.
- Following an investigation, real estate agent Abideen Jide Salami was arrested on Wednesday, September 9, after attempting to collect luggage containing illicit substances using a secret code sent by his brother in the United Kingdom.
- At Murtala Muhammed International Airport , NDLEA operatives intercepted 32.20kg of Colorado, continuing efforts to suppress drug cartels at airports, seaports, and land borders.
- Alongside enforcement, commands nationwide are conducting War Against Drug Abuse sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, and workplaces to educate the public on drug trafficking dangers.
