Nigeria, Egypt Move to Deepen Anti-Drug Cooperation
The planned pact would expand cooperation on drug trafficking as NDLEA says a meth lab it dismantled was worth about $362 million.
- On Tuesday, Egyptian Ambassador to Nigeria Mohammed Fouad visited Abuja to meet The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency chairman, Brig. Marwa, to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding strengthening intelligence sharing and joint operations.
- Fouad described Nigeria and Egypt as two of Africa's leading nations whose collaboration is essential to address the growing threat of illicit drug trafficking across the continent.
- Marwa noted the agency maintains operational partnerships with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration and the National Crime Agency , while recent successes include dismantling drug laboratories valued at about 362 million dollars.
- The planned agreement will formalize institutional cooperation between the anti-narcotics agencies of both countries. "We are very excited that we're going to collaborate with Egypt through an MoU," Marwa said.
- Intelligence-Led cooperation among African countries remains critical to prevent criminal networks from gaining a foothold on the continent, as both nations aim to identify practical areas of support to bolster ongoing efforts.
