NASA Sets Crew-11 Return Date From ISS After Astronaut Medical Issue Announcement
An unidentified Crew-11 astronaut will return early for a full hospital workup, marking the ISS's first medical evacuation in 25 years, NASA said.
- On Jan. 14, NASA and SpaceX are targeting an undocking no earlier than 5 p.m. EST for Crew-11 to return an astronaut needing diagnostics unavailable on the ISS, with splashdown off California early Jan. 15.
- On Jan. 8, NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman announced plans to return Crew-11 early because the ISS lacks the full diagnostic hardware needed for a complete medical workup, NASA said.
- The Crew-11 astronauts have begun packing and performing Dragon pressure-suit checks, with NASA's timeline listing hatch closure and undocking coverage on Jan. 14 and splashdown about 3:40 a.m. Jan. 15.
- The early return will shorten Crew-11's mission by just under two months, leaving NASA astronaut Chris Williams and two cosmonauts alone on the ISS while NASA may move up Crew-12's launch, currently slated no earlier than Feb. 15.
