ESA Confirms A11pl3Z as Third Known Interstellar Visitor

  • Astronomers discovered a new interstellar object, provisionally named A11pl3Z, passing through the Solar System in early July 2025.
  • Initial detection occurred on July 1 by NASA’s ATLAS program located in Rio Hurtado, with follow-up imaging conducted on July 2 using telescopes in Chile and the iTelescope network.
  • A11pl3Z has a highly eccentric orbit estimated near 6.0, travels at about 60 kilometers per second, and is currently near 18.8 magnitude near the border of Serpens Cauda and Sagittarius.
  • On July 3 at 6:00 p.m. EDT, an online event will stream live observations of A11pl3Z, allowing people worldwide to watch as telescopes continue tracking the object in real time.
  • While the object poses no threat to Earth, astronomers note it moves too fast for a spacecraft mission but expect ongoing observations to refine its interstellar nature and trajectory.
