Malaysia's Jailed Ex-PM Najib Withdraws Appeal on House Arrest, Local Media Reports
Lawyers filed the withdrawal without stating a reason, leaving Najib unable to revive the appeal over home detention.
On Monday, jailed former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak withdrew his appeal against a court ruling denying his request to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest.
Najib had launched the legal bid after claiming that a 2024 pardons board decision in Malaysia included an addendum order allowing him to serve his remaining term at home, which he alleged authorities ignored.
His law firm, Shafee, filed a "Notice for Discontinuance" on Apr 3 according to court documents, though the filing did not state a reason for abandoning the legal challenge.
This withdrawal follows a Dec ruling where Najib received a 15-year jail term and a US$2.8 billion fine for abuse of power and money laundering, marking another significant setback in his legal battles.
Najib is currently serving a six-year sentence for graft and money laundering related to the state fund scandal, where investigators allege at least US$4.5 billion was stolen during his tenure as premier.
