Musk vows affordable Starlink in India days before Ambani's record Jio IPO
Musk said Starlink must keep prices low to compete with Reliance Jio, as Indian regulators said satellite operators still need final security clearance.
On Sunday, Elon Musk renewed his attack on Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, accusing the billionaire's supporters of "absurd hypocrisy and hyperbole" over Starlink's delayed entry into India's satellite internet market.
Musk challenged claims that Starlink cannot compete with the "amazing low prices offered by Ambani's de facto monopoly in India" while simultaneously being portrayed as a serious threat, calling such contradictory arguments "ridiculous."
On Saturday, Musk shared reports alleging a Reliance-linked firm donated Rs 385 crore to the BJP and sarcastically addressed Ambani as "Prime Minister Ambani" to highlight concerns over his alleged political influence.
Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia rejected monopoly allegations, maintaining the authorization framework is "fair and non-discriminatory" and that suggestions of selective application are "baseless and misconceived."
While Starlink, Reliance Jio, and Eutelsat OneWeb hold licenses, none can begin commercial operations until completing mandatory security assessments and finalizing the administrative pricing framework for satellite spectrum assignment.
