Mumbai CNG Supply Disrupted After Damage to Main GAIL Pipeline, Says MGL; No Timeline for Restoration Yet

Damage to a major pipeline by a third party reduced gas pressure, causing many of Mumbai's 130–140 CNG pumps to close and disrupting transport services.

  • On Monday , Mumbai's CNG pumps saw long queues after a major pipeline was damaged, affecting thousands of autorickshaws, taxis and other CNG-run vehicles.
  • Damage to a GAIL pipeline inside the Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilisers compound cut off supply to Mahanagar Gas Limited's City Gate Station Wadala, disrupting gas to Mumbai, Thane, and Navi Mumbai.
  • Reduced network pressure forced numerous pumps to operate at limited capacity, with several of Mumbai's 130 to 140 CNG pumps shut since morning and drivers waiting one and a half hours.
  • Hundreds of CNG-run vehicles stayed off roads, forcing reliance on BEST buses as Kurla transit hub faced severe disruption; Anil Garg said `Many school buses in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are facing problems in getting CNG`.
  • MGL prioritised household PNG and advised industrial and commercial consumers to switch fuels, saying supplies will normalise once damage is fixed and CGS Wadala is re-fed, with no timeline given.
