The survey also finds majorities in most countries lack confidence in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Pew Research Center said.
- The Pew Research Center released a survey on Thursday showing a median of 67% of adults across 36 countries hold unfavorable views of Israel, with only 25% reporting favorable opinions.
- Conducted between February 8 and May 13, 2026, the survey captured global sentiment following the military campaign in Iran and ongoing conflict in Gaza.
- Views often track ideological divides; in the United States, 83% of liberals hold unfavorable views of Israel compared to 37% of conservatives, while majorities in France, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom also report negative assessments.
- Respondents expressed little confidence in Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding world affairs; Italy recorded the highest distrust at 88%, while more than half of adults in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Spain report having "no confidence at all."
- Favorability has declined since 2025, with South Korea seeing the sharpest deterioration in confidence rising from 64% last year to 76% this year, though Netanyahu retains majority confidence in only Kenya and the Philippines.
