- On Oct 20, the Reuters/Ipsos poll found 59% of most Americans backed U.S. recognition of a Palestinian state, including 80% of Democrats and 41% of Republicans.
- A growing number of countries including Britain, Canada, France and Australia have formally recognised Palestinian statehood in recent weeks, while President Donald Trump has largely backed Israel and brokered a ceasefire this month.
- The Reuters/Ipsos survey, conducted online, gathered responses from 4,385 respondents nationwide and found some 60% said Israel's response in Gaza was excessive, with a margin of error of two percentage points.
