Canada's Culture Minister Touts Commercial Deals with Creative Sector in China
Seven agreements worth more than $4.2 million were signed as Canada sought deeper cultural ties and new commercial partnerships with China.
On Tuesday, Culture Minister Mark Miller returned from a five-day trip to China, where his office says seven new commercial agreements worth more than $4.2 million were signed.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Mark Carney outlined a new strategic partnership with China focused on cultural exchanges and stronger people-to-people ties between the nations.
Miller traveled to Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Suzhou this month with almost 50 representatives from 36 Canadian companies and organizations, most from the interactive digital media industry.
During the visit, Miller met with Chinese counterpart Sun Yeli to discuss building commercial partnerships and creating jobs within the cultural sector.
These agreements position Canada to leverage new commercial ties for sustained growth across the cultural and digital sectors, solidifying the strategic framework established by the government partnership.
