Trump Hints at Pulling Back Threat of U.S. Bombardier Boycott
Trump said he would help keep Bombardier’s 1,200 Kansas jobs after pressure from Republican senators and a new $50 million Wichita investment.
On Monday, President Donald Trump announced he would back away from threats to boycott Bombardier Inc. during a rally in Park City, Kansas, citing the company's significant workforce in the state.
Trump previously vowed in September to bar sales of Bombardier's jets in the United States amid an escalating trade fight with Canada that has squeezed supply chains across multiple states.
Bombardier maintains over 1,200 jobs in Kansas and a supply chain of approximately 2,800 American companies across 47 states, positioning the aircraft maker as a major contributor to the aerospace sector.
Republican Senator Roger Marshall and Republican Senator Jerry Moran had urged Trump to reconsider, highlighting the company's contributions to Kansas workers and the importance of its Wichita operations.
Last week, Bombardier committed US$50 million to build a new North American Learning Center in Wichita, aiming to help aircraft technicians and mechanics develop skills supporting the company's continued expansion.
