Underworld Figure and Woman Arrested After Melbourne Raid
Taskforce Hawk detectives seized boxes and interviewed two people in their 70s as part of a financial offences probe, police said.
On Wednesday, Victoria Police arrested Mick Gatto and his wife at their Mount Martha home after detectives from Taskforce Hawk executed a search warrant as part of an investigation into alleged financial offences.
Taskforce Hawk, a unit established to probe criminal behaviour in the construction sector, led the operation. Authorities confirmed the raid formed "part of a current investigation into alleged financial offences."
Geoffrey Watson previously outlined a "Gatto extortion model" in a report to the Queensland Royal Commission into the CFMEU, though Gatto denied allegations that he had "damaged the building industry."
Gatto filed defamation proceedings earlier this year in the NSW Supreme Court over accusations he was a "murderous member of the mafia" in a segment on Nine's 60 Minutes.
Two people, both in their 70s, are being interviewed by police following the arrests, with Victoria Police indicating that further information will be released later today.
