Julian Quinones netted the opening goal in the 22nd minute following Roberto Alvarado's long pass, while Raul Jimenez doubled the advantage in the 31st minute from close range.
Mexico won a knockout-round match for the first time since 1986, with 17-year-old midfielder Gilberto Mora starting and goalkeeper Raul Rangel securing the team's fourth consecutive clean sheet.
The hosts will face either England or Congo on Sunday, July 5, at Estadio Azteca, with tickets for the Round of 16 match starting at $4,150.
Mexico became the second team to win four times in the 2026 tournament, joining France, after completing group play with a perfect 3-0-0 record.
