Meta Plans to Mine AI Chats for Ads Starting Dec. 16
Meta will use AI chat interactions to personalize ads on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, impacting over 1 billion users monthly except in the UK, EU, and South Korea.
- On Dec. 16, Meta Platforms will collect AI chat interactions to target ads on Facebook, Instagram and Threads, notifying users on Tuesday, Oct. 7, with exemptions for the United Kingdom, European Union and South Korea.
- Meta says it will personalize content and ad recommendations based on people’s interactions with its generative AI features, while Mark Zuckerberg, CEO, argued systems that `deeply` understand AI content can help users achieve their goals.
- Meta also says users can choose voice or text interactions, with voice use showing an indicator light, and sensitive topics will be excluded from ad targeting.
- More than 1 billion monthly Meta AI users face data feeding into ads, and Jake Moore, global cybersecurity advisor at ESET, warns, `If there was ever a reason not to use a chatbot, this is it,` prompting shifts to competitors.
- Advertisers gain expanded AI tools as Advantage+ leads campaigns deliver 14% lower cost per lead and 10% lower cost per qualified lead, while Conversions API supports 100,000 lead events and Salesforce integration next month.
