RHÔNE, AUVERGNE-RHÔNE-ALPES, JUL 30 – Turner needed more playing time after limited appearances last season and will count as a Designated Player for New England through 2025, sources said.
- On July 31, 2025, the Revolution are finalizing a loan for Matt Turner from Olympique Lyonnais through July 2026, with an announcement expected before Monday.
- Amid ownership upheaval at Olympique Lyonnais, Lyon tried to cancel the 8 million transfer but will proceed with the loan to Revolution.
- Facing understudy status for the USMNT, Turner made only four appearances with Crystal Palace last season, all in cup competitions.
- This move will see the Revolution cover most or all of Turner’s salary and designate him as a Designated Player for the 2025 season.
- Looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup, Matt Turner will compete with Matt Freese and Zack Steffen for the USMNT’s starting goalkeeper role, with less than a year to go.
