Man receives life imprisonment for terror plot with Heaton Park Synagogue attacker

- Investigators uncovered WhatsApp messages between the pair discussing preparing for 'war' and internet searches for weapons and target sites, discoveries made before Shamie killed two people at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue last year.
- Rob Potts, assistant chief constable for Counter Terrorism Policing North West, stated no evidence showed Bashir knew of the synagogue attack in advance, though he acknowledged the sentencing will prompt public discussion.
- Bashir, who pleaded guilty last month, will face a five-year serious crime prevention order upon release; Potts hopes the sentence acts as a 'deterrent to anybody considering taking part in extremist activity.
