Fraser Kilpatrick Pleads Not Guilty in Shona Stevens Murder Trial
Kilpatrick denies murdering Shona Stevens and faces 15 other charges, with prosecutors saying the trial is expected to last 17 days.
On Tuesday, Lord Arthurson set a trial date of January 31, 2028, at the High Court in Glasgow for Fraser Kilpatrick, accused of murdering Shona Stevens in November 1994.
Prosecutors allege Kilpatrick assaulted Stevens, 31, in Bourtreehill Park on November 10, 1994, striking her repeatedly with a hammer before dragging her, causing injuries that proved fatal three days later at Southern General Hospital.
Kilpatrick, 68, faces 15 additional charges including rape and assault involving adults and children; his lawyer, Donald Findlay, entered a plea of "not guilty to the various charges against him" on Tuesday.
Prosecutor Alex Prentice noted the trial is expected to last about 17 days, while Lord Arthurson scheduled a further preliminary hearing for December 21 this year at the High Court to prepare for proceedings.
Police Scotland released several appeals over 31 years following Stevens' death, and officers launched Operation Short in 2021, which included releasing images of a keyring found near the murder scene.
