Mambilla: Atiku reacts to allegation of collecting $500,000 bribe to award Sunrise contract
The tribunal found no documents supporting the $500,000 transfer and ordered Sunrise and Adesanya to repay Nigeria's legal costs of $11.82 million.

- The tribunal examined a 2003 payment of $500,000 from Sunrise promoter Leno Adesanya to Atiku's ex-wife, Jennifer Douglas. While rejecting Adesanya's "foreign-exchange transaction" explanation, it found no evidence Atiku used his position to benefit Sunrise.
- Atiku, through spokesperson Phrank Shaibu, denied bribery allegations, arguing the APC "amputated its legal meaning to indict him." He challenged the party to produce tribunal findings proving he accepted bribes or abused his office for the Mambilla contract.
- On Friday, Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake, representing the APC Presidential Council, stated that tribunal scrutiny of the transaction warrants Atiku's exit from the 2027 presidential race. The council cited the alleged connection between the payment and the Mambilla project.
- The Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Project, an estimated $6 billion initiative, has faced years of legal disputes since former Power Minister Olu Agunloye awarded the contract in 2003. The tribunal's decision resolves claims regarding the project's stalled development and associated financial settlements.
