Malaysia to lower RON95 fuel price from end-September in subsidy adjustment

The BUDI95 program limits subsidised RON95 petrol to 300 litres monthly per Malaysian citizen, aiming to reduce government expenditure and redirect savings to public services, benefiting over 16 million people.

  • The government of Malaysia will set the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 a litre for citizens starting September 30, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
  • More than 16 million Malaysians will benefit from the lower fuel price, while foreigners will pay RM2.60 per litre, according to Anwar.
  • Police and military personnel will receive the subsidized price from September 27, while cash handout recipients will be eligible from September 28, as mentioned by Anwar.
  • To balance fiscal discipline with living costs, the government aims to narrow the budget deficit, while savings from the subsidy reforms will support cash programs and public services, according to Mohd Afzanizam Abdul Rashid.
