The Federal Office for Migration reports a 13.1 percent decrease in the number of first asylum applications compared to the previous month. Interior Minister Dobrindt sees this as the first effect of his policy.
From January to May 2025, 54,000 initial applications for protection were submitted in Germany, half as many as in spring 2024. Federal Minister of the Interior Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) attributes this decline to his "migration turnaround".
