Lebanese turtle conservationist Mona Khalil killed by Israeli strike
The 76-year-old protected endangered sea turtles for more than two decades, and Green Southerners said the strike also injured her assistant.

- Trained by the Athens-based NGO Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles, Khalil famously opened the Orange House to fund her conservation efforts protecting vital nesting sites for endangered sea turtles along the coast.
- Greenpeace Middle East and North Africa expert Julien Jreissati said her death is a loss felt "for the environmental movement in Lebanon and the region," while The Society for the Protection of Nature in Lebanon called her a "tireless champion."
- Her death serves as a reminder that ongoing violence in southern Lebanon exacts a toll on civilians and environmental defenders, the group Green Southerners stated.
