Layoffs, program cuts possible under Northampton mayor’s proposed school budget

More than 20 staff layoffs, limited courses and larger class sizes are possible under Northampton Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra’s suggested school budget for the next public school year.At a presentation to the Northampton School Committee on March 13, Northampton’s school superintendent, Dr. Portia Bonner, outlined three budget scenarios for the 2026 fiscal year for elected official to consider. The fiscal year begins July 1.
