Lawyer Shot in Patna by Unidentified Assailants, Dies During Treatment
PATNA, BIHAR, JUL 13 – Jitendra Kumar was the fourth victim in 24 hours amid rising violent crimes in Bihar, increasing concerns over law and order ahead of assembly elections.
- On Sunday, July 13, in Patna's Sultanganj area, lawyer Jitendra Kumar Mahto was fatally attacked by unknown gunmen in full view of the public.
- Mahto, who had not been actively practicing law for two years, was attacked as he was making his way home after visiting his usual tea spot, located approximately 300 meters from the police station.
- Following the shooting, locals rushed to the scene, alerted the police, and officers including SP Parichay Kumar and Atulesh Jha arrived to start an investigation with forensic experts and CCTV analysis.
- Three spent bullet casings were found at the scene, and SP Kumar reported that Jitendra was shot by unidentified gunmen while heading home after stopping for tea. Mahto later died from his wounds at PMCH hospital.
- The incident adds to a recent spate of shootings in Bihar, raising public fear and prompting authorities to pledge swift action and accountability within 24 hours.
