Lake George wildfire still out of control and spread to 2.85 square km with wind
More than 100 firefighters use aircraft and heavy equipment to combat the 288-hectare wildfire that has forced evacuations of over 350 homes in Nova Scotia.
- On October 6, 2025 the Lake George wildfire in Nova Scotia remained out of control and expanded to about 2.85 square kilometres.
- Dry, windy conditions have driven the fire's spread, the province said, and the Department of Natural Resources Monday reported the blaze is burning deep, complicating suppression efforts.
- More than 100 firefighters, including 39 from British Columbia, are supported by six planes, six helicopters and 18 pieces of heavy equipment in battling the wildfire.
- More than 350 homes and cottages were evacuated around Lake George and the west side of Aylesford Lake, while 205 households registered at the Louis Millet Red Cross centre in New Minas with only three people staying overnight.
- Authorities warned that entering evacuation zones endangers residents and first responders, as Dave Corkum, mayor of the Municipality of the County of Kings, said some drove in on ATVs.
