On the 4th, the Kumamoto Regional Minimum Wage Council (chaired by Kumamoto University professor Kayo Kurata) submitted a recommendation to Kumamoto Labor Bureau Director Masaya Kanaya to raise the prefecture's minimum wage by 82 yen from the current level to 1,034 yen per hour in fiscal 2025. This would be the largest increase since fiscal 2002, when the hourly wage system was introduced, and the largest of any prefecture.
