- Charleston police fatally shot a 46-year-old man, Peter Delnardo Lilly, in the emergency room of CAMC General Hospital early Friday morning.
- Lilly became increasingly agitated after arriving around midnight seeking treatment and began threatening others while wielding a knife and spraying a fire extinguisher.
- After Lilly lunged at a hospital employee inside an elevator, an officer ordered him to drop the knife and then shot him when the attack continued.
- The suspect fell to the floor and was pronounced dead shortly afterward, while no employees sustained serious injury; the ER was locked down for two hours and has since reopened.
