Judge refuses to postpone June 1 civil trial over deadly 2024 collapse of Baltimore bridge
Judge James Bredar said the civil case will proceed despite criminal charges against the ship’s owners and operators.
- On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge James Bredar denied a request to delay the civil trial regarding the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, maintaining the scheduled June 1 start date.
- Synergy Marine Private Limited and employee Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair requested the delay after a criminal indictment accused them of conspiracy and hiding dangerous conditions on the Dali.
- The National Transportation Safety Board investigation revealed the container ship relied on an improper fuel pump, causing it to lose power at least four times before the crash.
- Rejecting the delay, Bredar stated proceeding is "the most efficient use of judicial resources," while victims' attorney Daniel Rose said companies have known since "day one" that criminal charges were likely.
